One of the primary goals of this award is to encourage all Bernese breeders and owners to preserve the Berner as an "all around" dog with a long tradition as a multi-use farm dog as well as a beautiful show dog.

    ** All BMDCA Versatility Award recipients will receive a plaque at the annual BMDCA Awards banquet and are eligible for a free page in the BMDCA yearbook.

    BMDCA Active Dog Excellent Qualifications:

    • The Berner's owner must be a BMDCA member from the time the last title was earned through the completed application process.

    • The Berner must have earned three of the following titles:

    a) AKC Rally Intermediate or Advanced Title
    b) AKC Scent Work Advanced Element Title (containers, interior, exterior, buried or handler discrimination)
    c) AKC Therapy Dog Title
    d) Barn Hunt Association Open Title
    e) North American Diving Dogs Advanced Title
    f) AKC Fast CAT DCAT Title or AKC Coursing Ability Advanced Title
    g) BMDCA Draft Dog Title

  • Qualifications:

    • The Berner's owner must be a BMDCA member at the time the dog becomes eligible for Top Producer recognition.

    • To be a BMDCA Top Producer a dog must have sired at least six Champions, Versatility or Working Titled dogs; a bitch must have produced at least four.

    • This award is given on a one time basis.

    Types of Top Producers

    • Top Producer of Champions

    • Top Producer of Versatility Dogs

    • Top Producer of Working Title Holders

    Applying for the Award:

    Statistics for Top Producers are maintained by BMDCA Records and there is no need for the owner to apply. Owners of BMDCA Top Producers will be notified by the BMDCA Records Chair by late January.

    Purpose: To recognize those sires and dams who have produced offspring that have earned recognition in the form of titles or awards.

    ** All BMDCA Top Producers are eligible for a free page in the BMDCA yearbook.

  • Categories and Qualifications:
    For all categories, at least one owner must be a BMDCA member.

    • Top Conformation Dogs

      • Top dog and top bitch based on all-breed points earn an award. A dog earns a point for each dog defeated at each level of competition — best of breed, group placements and best in show.

      • Top three dogs and bitches based on breed points earn an award. A dog earns a point for each BMD defeated in best of breed competition.

      • Top Versatility dog and bitch based on Grand Championship points earned in best of breed competition.

      • Top Versatility Excellent dog and bitch based on Grand Championship points earned in best of breed competition.

    • Top Obedience Dogs

      • Top BMD in Novice A, Novice B, Open A and Utility A earn an award. The first three qualifying scores are averaged to determine a dog's score.

      • Top BMD in Open B and Utility B earn an award. The three highest qualifying scores under different judges are averaged to determine a dog's score.

      • Ties go to the dog with the highest individual score.

    • Top Agility Dogs

      • Top Novice (scores from Novice Standard and Novice JWW all averaged)

      • Top Open (scores from Open Standard and Open JWW all averaged)

      • Top Excellent (Scores from Excellent Standard and Excellent JWW all averaged)

      • Top Masters (fastest 3 JWW and fastest 3 Standard scores averaged)​

    These would be calculated based on the highest score with score first, and yards per second being the tie breaker. Averaging the dogs 6 title-earning scores/yps for Novice, Open and Excellent, and the fastest YPS for Masters.

    Applying for the Award:

    Statistics for top winners are computed by BMDCA Records and there is no need for the owner to apply. Owners of BMDCA Top Winners will be notified by BMDCA Records by late February. See plaque awards for a list of all plaques awarded annually..
