How to make a donation:
Thank you for considering making a contribution to our BMDCA health issues funds. There are two alternatives for you to consider:
The AKC - Canine Health Foundation, BMDCA Donor Advised Fund. This is a 501 (c) (3), charitable organization that offers any contributor a federal tax deduction on your income taxes. The BMDCA has established a Donor Advised Fund whereby any contributions made to this fund are under the complete control of the BMDCA Board of Directors. The money in this fund has been used to help fund national (and sometime, international) research projects that are addressing diseases affecting Bernese Mountain Dogs. The BMDCA Health Committee reviews all research project requests and then recommends participating (or not participating) to the BMDCA Board of Directors, who ultimately make the final decision on participation. Within the last three years alone, over $27,500 has been committed to 3 cancer related research projects that could impact Berners You can find out detailed information about the AKC Canine Health Foundation by going to its website (http://www.akcchf.org/).
The other fund is the BMDCA Health Fund, which is a restricted fund maintained by BMDCA. Contributions to this fund are not tax deductible. This money can be used for any health related project that the Health Committee recommends or the BMDCA Board considers appropriate and in keeping with the charter of the Health Committee. There have been no expenditures from this fund other than to make voluntary contributions ($25,168) to the AKC-CHF, BMDCA Donor Advised Fund from 2000 to 2002 and to pay for a volunteer to attend the AKC-CHF Health Issues conference in 2001.
If you elect to make your contribution to the BMDCA Health Fund, merely make out a check payable to BMDCA and note that it is for the Health Fund and mail it to me at 81 Park Ave., Allendale, NJ 07401. If you wish to contribute to the AKC-CHF, BMDCA Donor Advised Fund, please mail the check to AKC-Canine Health Foundation, PO Box 37941, Raleigh, NC 27627-7941 and indicate on the check that the money is for the BMDCA Donor Advised Fund. In either case, please also mention in your cover letter that the contribution is I/M/O XXXX, so that the donation can be properly noted.
For all other contributions checks should be made payable to "BMDCA". A notation should be placed on the explanation line of the check as to which fund the money is targeted, e.g., Rescue, etc. and I/M/O (In Memory Of) -Pets name-. If you are making the contribution in the name of another include their name and I will send a note after the money is received. The check(s) should be mailed to me as follows:
